Is Blogging Worth It For Online Business Owners In 2025?
I am sooo sick and tired of the “is blogging dead” conversation AND the “is blogging actually worth it” conversation.
No, blogging is not dead. People DO still read blogs in the year of 2025 – I mean, you’re here now, right?
And if you’re running an online business of any kind, it’s ABSOLUTELY worth having a blog on your website.
So if you’ve been putting off starting a blog because you don’t think it’s needed or because you don’t feel like you have the time, let me try and convince you otherwise.
Here are five reasons blogging is still totally worth it for online business owners – even in 2025.
5 Reasons Every Online Business Owner Should Be Blogging In 2025
1. Blog posts work for you long after you hit publish
On social media, your posts get buried in the feed after a few hours. Emails you send to your email list get buried in your subscriber’s inboxes after a few days.
But a blog post? You could write one today and that thing could sit on your website and bring in traffic for YEARS.
All you have to do is write helpful, informative blogs on topics your ideal client is searching for. You can do basic keyword research for free with UberSuggest, though I recommend investing in a paid tool like KeySearch. Look at the search volume and difficulty metrics to choose with keywords to write about, or simply answer the questions your audience is already asking.
The more blogs you write and publish, the more Google will start to see your website as a reliable, authoritative source – and the more traffic she’ll send to your site.
That traffic compounds over time as Google indexes and ranks more of your content. So is it worth blogging if every post you spend a few hours writing has the potential to bring in new visitors and leads to your site basically FOREVER? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
2. Blogging helps you build credibility, authority, and positions you as a thought leader
When you consistently share your knowledge, insights, and educate your audience through blog posts, you’re essentially building a public body of work that demonstrates your expertise.
If you want to be seen as an expert or educator as an online business owner, a blog is hands down one of the best ways to do it.
I’m not talking about just churning out generic “5 Tips for X” posts (though those do have their place).
I’m talking about sharing informative, authoritative blogs on topics that you know like the back of your hand, opinions you have on your industry, and your own personal strategies/hot takes. This way, you prove you really know what you’re talking about and your opinions/strategies are backed with substance.
Those kinds of blogs have the potential to position you as a thought leader. But even if you don’t want to be considered a “thought leader,” blogging is worth doing simply because of the credibility it helps you build as a service provider.
3. Blogging doesn’t require you to be “consistent”
Blogging is one of the ONLY marketing channels that doesn’t need you to post consistently to reap the rewards.
It’s not like social media where the algorithm punishes you for not showing up daily. And it’s not like email where if you don’t send an email to your list for 6 months, your list will have gone cold because your subscribers completely forgot about you.
You can publish 3 blogs this month, and then 0 the next, and it’s totally fine.
Obviously, blogging more frequently will help you build momentum faster. And the more blogs you publish = the more Google will like and trust your site.
But the beauty of blogging is that every single post you publish is an asset that keeps working for you regardless of when you publish the next one.
Even just one helpful, optimized blog post published on your site each month has the potential to bring you traffic and leads from Google.
4. Blogging doesn’t *only* benefit your SEO
Everyone always talks about blogging for SEO, and yes, that’s a huge benefit.
But blogging is worth it for way more reasons than just getting more traffic from Google.
I recently sent a blog post to a potential client before our discovery call because it explains a lot about a specific service I offer and I thought it would be a useful resource. At the end of our discovery call, I asked her what questions she had for me.
She said she didn’t have any – because the blog post I’d sent to her answered them all. That blog post essentially pre-answered all her questions before we even talked.
If a prospect lands on your website and needs your services, but isn’t 100% convinced they should hire you specifically, a blog that showcases your skill, expertise, and your personality could be the reason they decide to move forward.
Blogging creates this helpful library of resources that exists on your website and can support your business in all kinds of ways beyond just bringing in traffic from Google.
5. Blog content is great for repurposing
Once you start a blog and get your first few posts published, that content becomes a goldmine that you can then repurpose into so many other formats. You could:
- Turn a blog post into a newsletter (or a multi-part email series)
- Pull quotes and key points for social media posts
- Compile related posts and use them as a foundation for a workshop or course
- Reference your past blogs in new content you create to give context
Blogs are genuinely one of the easiest types of content to repurpose, especially long-form, informational posts.
And it works the other way, too. If you already have a newsletter or are creating content on social media regularly, you can expand those ideas into full-on blog posts.
So… is blogging really worth it in 2025?
If you’re running an online business, where most of your leads come from either referrals or your online marketing efforts… yes, blogging is worth it.
You don’t have to commit to posting weekly or even use a content calendar (I don’t – my strategy is basically just publishing what I want whenever I want).
And you most definitely don’t have to be a “seasoned” business owner… in fact, I think one of the best things you can do when you’re just getting started in business is to start blogging for long-term growth.
Over time, you’ll build up a library of content that works for you 24/7, brings in new people through search, and positions you as a business owner who knows their shit.
